I’ll just come out and say it. I don’t like the Foxconn A79A-S at all. Periodically I’d get so frustrated with the board I’d have to get up and walk away from it. Working with it is like arguing with someone who just won’t listen to your point of view. I simply can’t recommend it given the laundry list of problems I’ve had with it. Each issue wasn’t insurmountable but it was a huge pain and it took a ton of time to power through all of the problems.
If you have masochistic tendencies and are looking for something that overclocks fairly well with a Phenom with a ton of extra effort on your part this board just might be for you but short of that I’d say it’s best to look elsewhere.
The Foxconn A79A-S BIOS is poorly laid out and simple features don’t work that are expected to be the norm in 2008. The JMicron RAID controller is buggy and sometimes a USB keyboard will not work at POST. Getting the board to overclock is a serious PITA.
